On July 1st, Western Sydney Wanderers officially announced that their captain, Marcelo Goes, would be leaving the team.
According to reports, Western Sydney Wanderers captain Marcelo Goes has officially left the club, ending his two-year stint in Western Sydney.
The Brazilian joined the Wanderers in July 2022 after an impressive career in Europe, where he played for French side Lyon, Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, German Hannover and Turkish powerhouse Besiktas. He made over 50 appearances during his time in Western Sydney.
Marcelo, now 38, made an immediate impact on his teammates and fans after his move to Western Sydney, and was subsequently named club captain by then-head coach Marco Rudan shortly after his arrival from Europe.
In a statement released on social media, the former Brazilian youth international confirmed his departure from the club and expressed his gratitude to everyone involved with the Wanderers over the last two years.
Marcelo Goes said: “I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Western Sydney Wanderers, my teammates, the entire staff and the fans. I will forever cherish the memories and friendships we built. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.”
