A-League Chair: Reduced Club Dividends Next Season, League Cost-Cutting Efforts

The full statement reads:

Following my disclosure in January and recent media speculation, I want to update you, the A-League fans, on the latest decisions made by the A-League Board today.

The Board, comprising myself, four club representatives, and the board representative appointed by Football Australia, has unanimously agreed to reduce annual dividends to clubs and the overall allocation to clubs for the next season.

This was not a decision we made lightly. We understand this will present challenges for clubs in the short-term, but we will be working closely with all clubs to help them navigate this period.

We are committed to right-sizing the A-League, which is why we have been focused on cutting operating costs across the league, growing our core football industry, and building a football pyramid to support the growth of our game.

The Board, the League and the clubs are all committed to bringing the best football. We are resolutely focused on the future, and our core metric currently is that we want to get to a point where the league is sustainably profitable. We are looking for a short-term goal of three years of consecutive revenue increases to set the platform for future league revenue growth.

We appreciate your continued support, and we look forward to announcing details of the A-League 2024-25 season shortly.
