According to statistics, the Bundesliga generated €5.24 billion in revenue last season, with an average of 39,000 spectators per game. In Bundesliga 2, there are nearly 29,000 spectators per game, making it “the most attractive and valuable second division in Europe to date.”

However, in reality, this comes at the expense of the league’s high standards, as one large traditional club after another has fallen to the second tier, something the Bundesliga league is not happy about. A prime example is Schalke 04 and Hamburg, both historic clubs that have always attracted large crowds, but have been stuck in the second division for a long time.
