According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, German giants Bayern Munich have opened talks with Joshua Kimmich over a contract extension.
The 29-year-old Kimmich’s current contract with Bayern expires in 2025. Earlier reports suggested Bayern were hoping to sell the player this summer for a reasonable price. However, Kimmich himself has no intention of leaving this summer, while Paris Saint-Germain from Ligue 1 is hoping to sign him for free next year when his contract expires.
In this situation, Bayern have instead opted to open contract extension talks with Kimmich. However, the prerequisite for reaching an agreement is that Kimmich accepts a significant pay cut (currently earning over €200,000 per week), so that Bayern’s salary structure requirements can be met.
Today, Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić even confirmed in South Korea: “Joshua has been a very important player for Bayern for many years, we want him to stay here in the future.”
