On July 29, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg reported that after Xavi Simons decided to agree to a loan extension with RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich has turned their attention to Rennes midfielder Désiré Doué.
Bayern Munich had been trying to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Simons throughout the summer, however, their pursuit has failed. The Dutchman has reportedly opted for a loan extension with RB Leipzig. The 21-year-old enjoyed a productive loan spell at Leipzig last season, and reports from Germany suggest a new one-year loan deal will be quickly finalized.
After Simons’ decision, the Bavarian giants will now shift their focus to signing Doué. The 19-year-old made 43 appearances for Rennes in all competitions last season, scoring four goals and providing six assists, attracting interest from clubs across Europe. In addition to Bayern, several Premier League clubs have been linked with the youngster, and French media had reported a week ago that Paris Saint-Germain was also considered very interested in him.
Bayern has proven they are willing to spend big this summer, having already completed big-money transfers for Palhinha and Olis, but whether Kompany’s side can match Rennes’ €60m asking price for Doué remains to be seen.
