Bild: Matthijs de Ligt’s fate changes after Hiroki Ito’s fracture, Bayern halts sale unless Manchester United raises offer

German newspaper Bild reported that Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt, who was initially expected to leave Bayern Munich, may stay at the club, at least for the summer, due to various factors.

One reason is the fracture of Hiroki Ito. In a pre-season friendly, Bayern’s new defender, Hiroki Ito, fractured his right metatarsal bone and will be sidelined for a period of time. German media believe that the impact on the Japanese player is not just about missing a few weeks or months, but also about missing valuable pre-season training sessions, which means that even after his return, he may take longer to regain match fitness.

Another reason is that Bayern is encountering difficulties in acquiring other defenders. Bayern has been targeting Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah as a priority signing and had made two formal offers, the first being €18 million plus add-ons and the second €25 million plus add-ons. However, both offers were rejected. German media pointed out that “there is a fundamental gap in the valuation of the player between Bayern and Leverkusen,” with Leverkusen demanding €40 million, a price that Bayern cannot afford at the moment.

Another reason is the impasse in the negotiation of the sale of De Ligt. Bayern has set the asking price for De Ligt at €50 million plus add-ons, but the current buyer, mainly Manchester United, has only offered €35 million.

Considering all these factors, Bayern has halted the sale of De Ligt and may keep the Dutchman to deal with unexpected situations. Of course, if the acquirer of De Ligt raises their offer, the situation may change, as anything can happen in the transfer market. However, for now, German media believe that there is a real possibility of De Ligt staying at the club.
