No State at All! Bayern Munich Held to Draw by Fourth-Tier Team, Kompany Under Pressure

On the evening of July 28th local time, Bayern Munich played a friendly match against German fourth-tier side FC Düren at the Karl Neprath Stadium, ending in a 1-1 draw.

Bayern’s starting lineup included players like Goretzka, Kim Min-jae, Guerrero, and De Ligt. As a German powerhouse, they are significantly stronger than Düren, currently playing in the Regionalliga West, the fourth tier of the German football system.

Despite numerous attacks in the first half, Bayern’s efficiency was lacking. They conceded in the 40th minute. Josip Stanisic’s backpass was too heavy, leaving Sven Ulreich unable to control the ball. Raphael Garcia seized the opportunity, breaking into the box and scoring with a close-range shot.

In the second half, Bayern manager Vincent Kompany brought on some well-known players like Mazraoui and Gnabry. However, Bayern only managed to equalize in the 89th minute with a stroke of luck. After a teammate’s long-range shot was blocked by a defender, Ilan Kundé was in the right place to finish the rebound.

Bayern’s performance in Kompany’s two friendly matches has been somewhat disappointing. A few days earlier, Bayern crushed Rottach-Egern 14-0. However, this scoreline was not considered ideal because in the previous three seasons, Bayern had scored at least 20 goals against this non-professional side.

Even more surprisingly, Bayern allowed Rottach-Egern to score, a scenario that had never happened in their previous three encounters.

On August 3rd and 10th, Bayern will face Tottenham Hotspur in two friendly matches. On August 13th, Bayern will play Tirol, their final warm-up game before the official season begins.
