After wrapping up their Asian training tour, Bayern Munich has returned to Germany to make final preparations for the upcoming season. Bayern executives have lauded the Asian tour, particularly the South Korea leg, as a perfect success, delivering outstanding results in both commercial development and athletic preparation.
Bayern’s South Korea trip was a whirlwind, lasting only 85 hours from arrival to departure. However, the club took their first-ever visit to South Korea seriously, with executives, head coach Vincent Kompany, and player representatives Thomas Müller and Kim Min-jae holding a press conference before returning to Munich.
Sporting director Marco Neppe spoke first, expressing his delight with the team’s performance against Tottenham Hotspur: “Nearly 64,000 fans witnessed our 2-1 victory over Tottenham. The game showcased many positive aspects: high energy, high intensity, and efficient running – this is the new Bayern style.”
Financial director Jan-Christian Dreesen lauded the South Korea tour from a commercial development perspective: “From a merchandise sales standpoint, this is Bayern’s most successful overseas training trip ever. In the past four weeks, Bayern jerseys have sold more in South Korea than in the entire previous season. We always set the bar high, but this exceeded our expectations.”
New Bayern manager Kompany also expressed satisfaction with the training results reflected in the game, stating he hopes to return Bayern to the path of championship contention in the new season. Kompany said, “It’s crucial that we pose a threat when we have the ball. We’ve done very well in this area, and everyone is willing to contribute in difficult circumstances.” Veteran Müller echoed his support for the coach, saying, “If I could have foreseen that we would perform like we did in the first half after only a few training sessions, it would have been enough to make me satisfied. The high-intensity pressing style is exactly what I like.”
