On August 5th, Leverkusen midfielder Wirtz gave an interview, during which he spoke about his team’s exit from the Euros.
Speaking about the Euros exit, Wirtz said: “The result was very disappointing, we had a chance to go to penalties and we had a chance to win. It took a few weeks to accept the result, but Spain ultimately won the tournament and that might make it a little easier to accept.”
Leverkusen, as the reigning Bundesliga champions, will be competing in the Champions League this season. Talking about his first Champions League season, Wirtz said: “I haven’t thought about the Champions League yet, right now I’m more focused on getting back into the game and looking forward to being on the pitch and singing the Champions League anthem.”
