According to the Daily Mail, Sky Sports UK has released an 89-second video showing Vincent Kompany berating Burnley midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson during training. But fans have suggested that such scenes are unlikely to be seen at Bayern Munich.
The video begins with Kompany (now the head coach of Bayern Munich) speaking in a stern tone: “I want to see confidence, I want to see the best results. To achieve that, you need discipline, control your emotions. Every player should have passion and determination, but never recklessness. Those who have these qualities will be winners.”
The video then cuts to Kompany observing Gudmundsson in training. In less than a minute, Kompany repeatedly shouts “Damn” and similar words 15 times.
“Don’t get on my nerves! How many times do I have to tell you, stop complaining!” Kompany yells.
When Gudmundsson tries to walk away, Kompany continues to roar: “What’s this attitude? What are you trying to say to the team, you big lug? Whatever you want, I’ll give it to you.”
Faced with Kompany’s harsh attitude, Gudmundsson says: “I just wanted to ask if we could end this attack.” However, he is immediately rebuked by Kompany: “Of course not! Even though you didn’t say it, I saw the complaints in your body language. Keep training!”
The video has quickly gone viral on social media, garnering over 2.3 million views in a short time.
Kompany spent two seasons as manager of Burnley. In the 2022/23 season, he led Burnley to the Championship title with a record 101 points. However, they only won 5 games in the 2023/24 Premier League season and eventually were relegated back to the Championship.
This summer, Kompany was unexpectedly appointed as Bayern Munich’s head coach. The coach has achieved a 3-1-0 record after taking charge of the new team, including two victories over Tottenham. In his new club, German media have repeatedly observed Kompany’s strictness in training, such as his criticism of Leon Goretzka. However, some fans have commented: “This approach won’t work against Bayern’s big stars.”
Other fans have said: “If he acts like that, he’ll be kicked out of the club by the likes of Müller, Neuer, and Kimmich in six months.”
