July 3rd – Mainz 05 has officially announced the signing of 23-year-old Japanese midfielder Kaoru Mitoma. The midfielder previously played for Kashima Antlers in the J.League.
Mitoma, a defensive midfielder, was selected for the Japanese national team in January 2024 to participate in the 2023 Asian Cup. He started his career at Machida Zelvia in the J.League, before joining Kashima Antlers in 2023.
In July 2024, Kashima Antlers officially announced that Mitoma would be leaving the club due to his impending move abroad.
