While the European Championship is in full swing, the summer transfer market is also keeping things hot. Recently, Bayern Munich player Sven Ulreich responded to transfer rumours in an interview, stressing his support for the team’s first-choice goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer.
In an interview with the Münchner Merkur, Ulreich said it was unwise to get too excited about transfer rumours, saying: “There are always things and changes in the summer, let’s see what happens in the coming weeks or months. For Bayern, there probably won’t be many changes in the goalkeeper position.”
Besides focusing on what he can control, Ulreich is also closely following the European Championship and his friend Neuer. Ulreich believes it’s premature to discuss a decline in Neuer’s abilities.
Ulreich said: “My family and friends said they don’t understand why there are these discussions about Manuel in Germany. We’re still witnessing the greatest goalkeeper of all time, which is the best thing for Germany. In other countries, if he makes a mistake, there would be no discussion at all. Manuel has raised the level of goalkeeping to a whole new level. That’s why these discussions are incomprehensible to me. Manuel is in great shape, he made world-class saves against Hungary, then there was the save against Xhaka. He’s doing well, we have to give him positive reviews, we’re lucky to have a goalkeeper like him. Manuel knows how to handle (criticism), but it’s undoubtedly annoying, especially when he’s achieved what he has, and he still has to defend against some mistakes.”
