On August 19, the Chinese Football Association (CFA) officially announced the results of the competitive negotiation for the 2024 Chinese FA Cup Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system. Sony Corporation emerged victorious in the negotiation and will become the official VAR service provider for this season’s FA Cup.
Previously, the CFA officially released a “Competitive Negotiation Announcement for the 2024 Chinese FA Cup Video Assistant Referee System Cooperation Project,” publicly inviting bids for the VAR service provider for the FA Cup from the quarterfinals to the final.
The CFA stated in the announcement: “This project is for the 2024 Chinese FA Cup Video Assistant Referee system (hereinafter referred to as VAR) service, and the cooperation unit will be determined through competitive negotiations. The service content includes providing VAR services for a total of 7 matches from the 6th to 8th rounds (note: quarterfinals to finals) of the 2024 Chinese FA Cup. If possible, a semi-automatic offside system can be used in the final.”
Now, the CFA has officially confirmed that Sony (China) Co., Ltd. has won the negotiation, and they will be responsible for providing VAR services for all 7 matches in the quarterfinals to finals stages of this season’s FA Cup.
