After Uruguay’s 0-1 loss to Colombia on July 11, a clash erupted between Uruguayan players, including Darwin Nunez, and Colombian fans, stemming from threats to the families of Uruguayan players.
As the reason for the conflict became clear, ESPN host Herculez Gomez took to social media, saying that Nunez simply reacted as any normal person would.
Herculez Gomez wrote: “I don’t condone any violence. But if my family was in danger at a football match, I think we would all act decisively.”
“Nunez would gladly face any consequences if it meant ensuring his family’s safety. It’s truly sad that there was a lack of security at the match.”
