In response, CONMEBOL issued a statement:

Regarding the violent incidents that occurred after the match between Uruguay and Colombia, the Disciplinary Committee of the South American Football Confederation has decided to open an investigation to clarify the events and determine the responsibilities of the individuals involved.

With the Copa América final approaching, we reiterate and warn that we will not tolerate any behavior that tarnishes this global football celebration. The players participating in the final, the fans attending the match, and hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide are all watching this final.

Such events are unacceptable, and passion should not turn into violence. Therefore, any act that violates the spirit of sportsmanship and disrupts the world football family will not be tolerated.
