On July 10th, Argentina will face Canada in the Copa America semi-finals. Ahead of the match, Canada head coach John Herdman stated, “We won’t be sitting back in this game. We will be aggressive. We will play our game. We want to see how long we can last.”
Looking back at their group stage loss to Argentina, Herdman reflected, “We didn’t defend Messi well enough, he was able to get on the ball too often in front of our goal. Limiting Messi is important, but we won’t man-mark him. We will try to stop Messi, restrict his options, and make it difficult for him to get on the ball. That’s important.”
However, Herdman acknowledged, “Messi is the greatest player of all time. We respect him. It’s always an honor to play against someone like him. The second match against Argentina will be a big challenge. We hope to do better than last time.”
In Herdman’s view, “This match against Argentina will be our most important ever. We won’t be sitting back in defense. We’ll play with aggression, at our own pace.”
