Just 2 minutes into the game, Rondon unleashed a powerful long-range shot forcing the Canadian goalkeeper into a spectacular save. However, the goal was ruled offside.

In the 5th minute, Canadian player Shaffelburg broke into the box only to be pulled back by Arano. VAR was called in and after a brief review, the video assistant referee did not award a penalty.

The 11th minute saw Canada capitalizing on a counter-attack, almost resulting in a clear-cut chance. The Venezuelan goalkeeper rushed out to block the ball. Eustáquio attempted a long-range shot which was blocked by the defense. The rebound shot was once again blocked by the defenders.

In the 24th minute, Canada once again carved open an opportunity on the right flank. David delivered another cutback, and Shaffelburg again attempted a shot, this time the goalkeeper made a fantastic save pushing the ball wide.

26th minute: David found himself with a clear chance, but he rushed his attempt and failed to hit the target.

Neither team could create clear-cut chances after that.

40th minute: Venezuela pressed forward, laying siege to the Canadian defense. But Canada countered and David won a free-kick on the right side. The delivery into the box failed to create any danger.

At half-time, Canada leads Venezuela 1-0.
