Brazil are second in Group D with 4 points. They need to win at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara to snatch top spot from Colombia, who have won both of their matches. Dorival, who coached Colombia captain James at São Paulo, said he is familiar with the opponent’s strength. Dorival said: “I think this is the strongest generation of Colombian football in recent years, with players playing in major teams around the world, many of whom play in the Brazilian league. I have no doubt that this will be a tough match, but the game may not be too open, as both teams will be cautious defensively, and we hope we can perform at our best.”

Colombia are on a 25-game unbeaten run, and beat Brazil 2-1 in World Cup qualifiers last November, but 62-year-old Dorival said he only wants to focus on his own team. Dorival said: “Colombia are an interesting team, they have been unbeaten for 25 games, which is not a coincidence, but the result of a lot of work. At the same time, we need to be aware of the moment we are in, and the difficulties we may face and find solutions. I think Brazil have evolved, it is a gradual process, but it is happening.”

Dorival also added that he would not rest key players like Militão, Paquetá and Vinicius out of fear of yellow card suspension, as he always prefers to use “the best possible lineup.”
