US Soccer Legend Howard: Wants Klopp to Coach the USMNT, Would Recruit Him Immediately if He Was in Charge

In the current Copa America tournament, the United States, playing as hosts, finished third in their group with a record of 1 win and 2 losses, leading to a disappointing exit. Head coach B.J. Callaghan is on the verge of being fired. Today, US soccer legend Tim Howard expressed his belief that Jurgen Klopp should be the next coach of the US Men’s National Team.

Howard said, “I want to do everything I can to help my country, and I’m proud to have played for the National Team. If I was in charge of the US Soccer Federation right now, I’d be at the airport and find Klopp to convince him to take the US Men’s National Team job. My plan is simple, the USMNT has a young group of players with huge potential, and for Klopp, it’s like Liverpool all over again. In two years, he can turn the US into a World Cup-caliber team.”

Addressing the current state of the USMNT, Howard stated, “Without a doubt, Callaghan has to take responsibility, that’s the nature of sports. But realistically, a lot of the responsibility falls on the players. I know these comments may not resonate with everyone, but I played for the National Team for 15 years, and sometimes we weren’t good, but we stuck together. Even with a bad coach, we could win key games.”

Despite this, Howard remains confident that Callaghan will be fired, and that it’s time to find a coach who can maximize the potential of the USMNT.
