Australian news website, The Australian, reported that there is more to the story behind former Melbourne City player, Arslan’s, departure and subsequent signing with Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
It is reported that 33-year-old Arslan still had a year left on his contract with Melbourne City, but he requested an early release, claiming that he “missed his family” and wanted to “return to his home country of Germany”. The club agreed to his request and allowed him to leave. However, Arslan immediately joined J-League club Sanfrecce Hiroshima, causing a lot of displeasure among the club’s management but leaving them with no choice.
Melbourne City’s Director, Petrilo, stated that the club had tried everything to keep him, but the situation ultimately spiralled out of their control.
