On July 26, Seoul FC released an official statement regarding Han Seung-gyu’s alleged illegal gambling.
The statement is as follows:
Seoul Football Club today confirmed the illegal gambling of Han Seung-gyu. It is with a heavy heart that I inform the club’s fans.
Our primary concern is to sincerely apologize to the fans who cherish Seoul Football Club for causing so much concern over something that should not have happened.
Seoul Football Club received reports related to allegations of illegal gambling by Han Seung-gyu, and through its own investigation, it confirmed that Han Seung-gyu participated in illegal gambling in 2021, prior to his transfer to Seoul Football Club. Seoul Football Club has requested that relevant information be submitted to the Korea Professional Football Federation and will continue the process in accordance with the regulations.
Although the illegal activity was not committed while Han Seung-gyu was at Seoul FC, we have decided to terminate our contract with Han Seung-gyu effective immediately, taking full responsibility for the serious damage to the reputation of the Seoul Football Club players.
Most importantly, the club considered the reasons for this unpleasant incident that occurred during a critical period, and the greatest responsibility of the Seoul Front. The Seoul Front will take responsibility for this and will make every effort to prevent this from happening again.
