After 27 rounds in this season’s K League, Gangwon FC continues to sit atop the table, and head coach Yoon Jong-hwan has earned increasing recognition from fans.
Yoon Jong-hwan took over Gangwon FC in late June of last year, and initially encountered significant difficulties in integrating the team. In his first 12 matches, he only secured one victory. By the end of the 29th round of the K League in August 2023, Gangwon FC sat at the bottom of the table with a dismal record of 3 wins, 12 draws, and 14 losses.
Fortunately, Gangwon FC’s management team retained faith in Yoon Jong-hwan and decided to give him more time. Ultimately, the team managed to survive relegation through the playoffs.
This season, Yoon Jong-hwan’s coaching has finally started to yield results for Gangwon FC. While their defensive record of conceding 40 goals in 27 games isn’t particularly impressive, they have produced the league’s best attack with 51 goals scored. With a record of 15 wins, 5 draws, and 7 losses, they sit at the top of the table with 50 points, four points ahead of second-placed Gimcheon Sangmu.
