According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Barcelona head coach Flick has expressed his determination to take the team to the next level, but he also pointed out that he hopes to bring in a player who can help the team win.
Speaking about coaching Barcelona, Flick said: “When I decided to become a coach, I started paying attention to Barcelona because they play fantastic football. You can see how they develop players, everyone is talking about it.”
He was even more complimentary about the La Masia youth training system: “What I saw in the first training session was incredible. I have to thank La Masia because the way they develop players is incredible. The level they provide is really very high. Usually, when internationals or experienced players are not there, you bring in young players and the quality drops a bit, but that didn’t happen here. It’s really gratifying to see them progress. I told them: ‘I want every session to have level, intensity and focus.’ They did it 100%.”
Despite this, Flick still hopes the team will make signings: “We need to bring in a player who can help the team win, but we also have some young players who we have to let develop.”
On his tactical philosophy, Flick elaborated: “We always want to stay active, that’s very important, to take action with the ball and be fast without the ball. We want to guide the opponent to where we want them to go so we can win the ball back. Sometimes we will press high, sometimes we will press more conventionally. When we have the ball, everyone has to feel free to do their best.”
