According to The Athletic, Nico Williams is expected to stay at Athletic Bilbao this summer and will continue to play for the club next season.
Nico renewed his contract with Bilbao last December, and his current contract runs until 2027. One of the reasons he renewed his contract was to play in European competitions with Bilbao, so staying with the club this season would achieve his goal.
Although Nico Williams has not officially informed Bilbao and Barcelona of his decision, both clubs believe that, unless there is an unexpected turn of events before the summer transfer window closes, Nico will most likely continue to play for Bilbao.
TA reported that Nico’s contract contains a release clause of over €55 million, which Barcelona is currently unable to activate.
