Recently, Real Sociedad president Aperribay revealed details of Le Normand’s transfer in an interview: the player requested to leave three times, and the transfer fee totaled close to €40 million.
Regarding Le Normand’s transfer fee to Atletico Madrid, Aperribay did not shy away from revealing the specific transaction figures: “€34 million plus €5 million in variable clauses.”
Le Normand had requested Aperribay to let him leave Real Sociedad on three occasions, so Aperribay could only agree to let him go. Aperribay said: “Today I met with Le Normand at the Anoeta Stadium, he came here to say goodbye. We reminisced about his time at Real Sociedad, how he came here, how he rose through the ranks, and his eight years here.”
“Not long ago we hoped he would stay, but players choose where they want to go. We would have preferred not to talk about his departure, but we believe listening to the players makes us stronger. We weren’t considering selling Le Normand, but he had told us in April that he might leave.”
“In May we still wanted to keep him, even though the transfer agreement was finalized two Saturdays before, the last conversation took place before that. If he had told us he wanted to stay, we would not have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid. He was very positive in his performance and attitude throughout the process.”
“Just as he chose to come here eight years ago, now his circumstances have presented the need to leave. When Le Normand told us he wanted to accept Atletico Madrid’s offer, we began to finalize the transfer. The conversation at the time was on Saturday morning at 10:30, we determined the terms and amount.”
