Stay or Leave? Felix Booed by Atletico Madrid Fans During Pre-Season Match, Scores Goal Amidst Jeers

In the early hours of August 4th, Felix delivered a standout performance in Atletico Madrid’s 3-1 pre-season victory against Getafe. According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Felix was a bright spot for the team, but he was also the only player to be booed throughout the game.

The jeers began during the warm-up, and a small section of fans continued to hurl insults at him throughout the match, calling him a “Portuguese bastard”. The 24-year-old Portuguese forward, however, remained unfazed and proved his worth by scoring a goal towards the end of the second half.

The relationship between Felix and Atletico Madrid has become strained over the past season. His public criticism of the club and head coach Simeone sparked outrage among Atletico fans. Upon his return from the 2024 European Championship, Felix was forced to train separately for a period.

Despite his inconsistent form, Felix has attracted interest from several top clubs. However, Atletico’s €60 million asking price has deterred many potential buyers. Felix’s contract with Atletico runs until June 2029, but the relationship between the two parties has deteriorated, and Atletico fans are reluctant to see him donning the red and white stripes again in the upcoming 2024/25 season.

Although Felix’s performance in the 2023/24 season and during the European Championship, both for Barcelona and the Portuguese national team, fell short of expectations, he remains a highly talented young player whose future will continue to be a topic of interest in the football world.
