Recently, Sky Italia, Spanish newspapers Mundo Deportivo and Marca have all reported that Real Madrid, after missing out on Josko Gvardiol, are hoping to sign Inter Milan’s Italian international Alessandro Bastoni to replace Nacho. However, their offer was too low and was rejected outright by Inter, with Bastoni’s agent mocking Real Madrid for not being willing to pay a high price for a defender.
Bastoni’s agent, Giuseppe Riso, is one of Italy’s most important agents, representing several Italian internationals including Alessandro Scalvini, Davide Frattesi, and Lorenzo Colombo. Riso said, “A few years ago Manchester City wanted Bastoni, and recently Real Madrid have tried as well, but Inter see Bastoni as a key part of their project and they are absolutely not going to sell him. And as you know, Real Madrid will not spend the same amount on a defender as they would on a forward.”
According to Spanish media, Real Madrid hoped to sign Bastoni for €30-40 million, but their offer was rejected outright by Inter. Due to the low offer, the proposal was mocked by many fans on social media – including both Italian and Spanish fans. Bastoni is currently valued at €70 million on Transfermarkt and has recently renewed his contract, so such an offer would obviously not be enough to convince Inter to let go of a future mainstay in the Italian national team.
Italian media reports that historically, Real Madrid has followed a “Zidane + Pavon” policy, investing all their transfer funds in attacking stars. In recent years, Real Madrid’s approach has remained the same. They have just completed the signing of Endrick (with a potential fee of €72 million), and last season they spent over €100 million to sign Jude Bellingham. However, when it comes to signing defenders, Real Madrid have always been unwilling to pay a high price. This summer, when they were competing with Manchester United for Gvardiol, they offered only €25-30 million, which was less than half of what Manchester United offered.
