Spanish media outlet Relevo has revealed details of how Atletico manager Diego Simeone persuaded Alvarez to join the club. Since negotiations began, Simeone has made about five phone calls to Alvarez, striving to bring him in.
According to sources, Simeone explicitly told Alvarez: “If you are determined, you can outshine Mbappe and Lewandowski to become La Liga’s top scorer.”
Last season, Alvarez made 54 appearances for Manchester City (including 39 starts), scoring 19 goals and providing 13 assists. The 24-year-old Argentinian striker currently has a market value of €90 million.
