The new La Liga season has yet to start, and teams are still playing friendly matches around the world. On August 4th, Spanish giants Atlético Madrid embarked on a trip to Hong Kong, where they will play two friendly matches against local side Kitchee and Italian powerhouse Juventus.
However, fans were disappointed to learn that French star Antoine Griezmann and new signing Axel Disasi were not part of the travelling party, instead choosing to stay in Madrid for a specialized pre-season training program.
Griezmann took to a video message to apologize to fans and explain the reason behind his absence. He mentioned that due to a demanding schedule last season and the high intensity of the European Championships, his body had shown signs of fatigue. To prevent potential injury risks, the club decided to have him undergo a “personalized and targeted” training program in Madrid.
Last season, Griezmann participated in a total of 54 official matches, including the European Championship. It’s safe to say that the French international’s physical exertion had reached its limit, and Atlético Madrid took this seriously, recognizing the need to take measures to ensure their key player could face the new challenges in top form. Therefore, the club designed a meticulous pre-season training program aimed at helping Griezmann regain his physical fitness, adjust his condition, and ultimately reach his peak performance in the new season.
Griezmann expressed regret for missing out on the friendly matches in Hong Kong, but emphasized that the decision was made with long-term considerations in mind. He looks forward to returning to the pitch in the new season with renewed energy and outstanding performances to repay the fans for their support and love.
