On August 11, Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero spoke about his Argentine compatriot Julian Alvarez on a live stream. Several media outlets have reported that Alvarez is about to join Atletico Madrid.
Aguero said: “Julian (Alvarez) is a good fit for Simeone’s system. At Atletico, he won’t have to compete with Haaland. I think Guardiola doesn’t want to let him go, but he will understand Julian’s situation.”
Aguero added: “Last season, Julian got a lot of opportunities because of Haaland’s injury, but when the Norwegian returned, Julian was still Guardiola’s second choice. But at Atletico, it will be different. He can feel what it’s like to be a starting striker and the passion of the fans there.”
Last season, Alvarez made 54 appearances (39 starts) for Manchester City, scoring 19 goals and providing 13 assists. The 24-year-old Argentine forward is currently valued at €90 million.
