According to AS, 23-year-old Alphonso Davies has rejected Bayern’s contract renewal offer, not ruling out the possibility of joining Real Madrid this summer.
Real Madrid originally planned to sign Davies on a free transfer in 2025, with Laporte also being their target for a free transfer. However, in recent hours, things have taken a turn, forcing Real Madrid to make a decision on the Canadian full-back.
According to German media reports, Bayern executives revealed that, due to their inability to renew Davies’ contract, they would rather sell him this summer to obtain some funds rather than letting him leave on a free transfer in 2025. This marks a significant change in strategy from Bayern in recent months, with the club’s honorary president, Uli Hoeness, previously saying that Davies would stay for another season even if he didn’t renew. However, after Davies rejected Bayern’s contract renewal offer of €14 million per year, he was put on the transfer list.
It is understood that Bayern would need to receive at least €50 million to let Davies go. Now that Bayern has put Davies on the market, numerous offers will be sent to the player’s agent, and Real Madrid will face more competition.
Currently, Real Madrid is also in preliminary talks with their left-back Ferland Mendy for a contract renewal, with the Frenchman’s contract also expiring in June 2025.
