August 7 – According to the sports media outlet The Athletic, Atletico Madrid are looking to sign Spanish midfielder Javier Guerra from Valencia, with the two sides reportedly in active negotiations.
It is understood that the two sides have reached a preliminary agreement on a transfer fee of up to €25 million plus add-ons, as well as 15% of any future resale fee. If the transfer goes through, Guerra’s former club Villarreal will receive 30% of the transfer fee.
The report claims that the 21-year-old midfielder did not train with the team on Tuesday due to the impending transfer. He is also not willing to accept a long-term contract offered by Valencia. Girona and Real Sociedad are also said to be interested in the midfielder.
Javier Guerra, 21, is a product of Villarreal’s youth academy, and moved to Valencia in the summer of 2019. Last season, he made 40 appearances across all competitions for Valencia, 30 of which were starts, scoring 4 goals and providing 1 assist. The player’s current Transfermarkt value is €20 million.
