Real Madrid previously announced that captain Nacho’s contract would expire and he would be leaving the club. After officially confirming his departure, Nacho posted a long letter on social media to say goodbye to Real Madrid fans.
Here is the full text of Nacho’s letter:
Dear Real Madrid fans,
I have some words I want to share with you, but they won’t be enough to express everything I feel right now. I want to say goodbye to Real Madrid, the club of my life. I arrived here when I was 10 years old. I grew up here and became a player. I learned to win and lose, to fight, to suffer, to enjoy, to always have passion and determination. I learned everything here. I’ve been coming to the same place to train every day for 25 years. I can say that I’ve learned Real Madrid’s values, I’ve dedicated my life to this club and fought for it. You have given me everything.
This is hard for me, but it’s time to say goodbye with confidence and tranquility. I’ve always given my all for Real Madrid, both on and off the field. As a child, I always dreamed of playing at our Bernabéu stadium and now I can proudly say goodbye as captain, having lifted the 15th Champions League trophy. There are no words to describe how I feel right now. I always wanted to end my Real Madrid career at the top in a beautiful way and I can say it couldn’t have been better.
For the past few months, I’ve been thinking, hesitating, and questioning, but today I tell you that I want to have a different experience with my family. Thank you to Real Madrid for understanding me.
President Florentino Pérez: Thank you for your help and your trust in me every step of the way.
My teammates: You are my brothers. You are the best players, teammates, and friends a captain could ask for. Just thinking about you makes me happy.
Mr. Ancelotti: You made me a better player because you always challenged me. Thank you for taking care of me and understanding me.
Real Madrid fans: Your demands made us great players. Fighting for you, feeling your warmth made me stronger. I will never forget you.
I would also like to thank all the people who have worked with me throughout the years, making me a better player and a better person. Coaches, fitness trainers, staff, doctors, communication and marketing team, kit managers, club staff… I offer you my sincere thanks!
I also want to thank my parents, wife, children, family, and friends who have supported me throughout my journey as a player. There have been difficult times, and their help and support have sustained me to achieve my dreams and reach the top.
After 24 years of dedication, passion, and commitment, I say goodbye to you. I hope you remember that I was a youth player who gave everything for the club. I am eternally grateful from the bottom of my heart.
From today, I will shout for every goal and every title of this great team. Real Madrid will always be in my heart!
Hope to see you soon, Real Madrid fans.
