Chelsea are considering signing Joao Felix, after the deal for Samuel Omorodion fell through.

Chelsea had agreed a £34.5million fee with Atletico Madrid and offered Omorodion a seven-year contract, but the deal eventually collapsed. As a result, Chelsea are now looking at Felix, who was on loan at Stamford Bridge for six months in 2023.

During his short spell with the Blues, Felix made 20 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals, and the 24-year-old is keen to make the move permanent.

Felix said: “I still don’t know about my future, but the four or five months at Stamford Bridge, I enjoyed it.”

Felix added: “It’s a top club. Everyone at the club was really good with me. My teammates, unbelievable. I really enjoyed my time here.”

However, Felix eventually returned to Atletico with the club president Enrique Cerezo saying the then manager Mauricio Pochettino didn’t want to sign the player.

“Yesterday we were told that the new coach at Chelsea (Pochettino) didn’t want João Félix,” Cerezo said. “We know less than 24 hours. He will return here and we will see. We don’t have any plans.”

Pochettino, following strategic differences with club officials, departed Chelsea after just one season in charge. Enzo Maresca was appointed as the new manager and Pochettino’s departure paved the way for Felix’s return.

Atletico are keen to sell the forward, having spent big in the summer transfer market. Robin Le Normand, Julián Álvarez and Alexandre Sørloth have already joined the Rojiblancos for substantial transfer fees.
