Spanish Media: Lunin to Stay at Real Madrid and Compete with Courtois for the Starting Spot

Spanish Media: Lunin to Stay at Real Madrid and Compete with Courtois for the Starting SpotOn August 21st, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Andriy Lunin will remain at Real Madrid for at least another season despite transfer rumors this summer.

Lunin’s agent Jorge Mendes has been actively promoting the goalkeeper to other clubs this summer, ensuring regular playing time for his client next season.

It’s understood that Chelsea and Arsenal were potential destinations Mendes contacted, but a move to either club seemed unrealistic. Chelsea already has six goalkeepers on the books, while Arsenal are interested in David Raya and don’t require Lunin.

With transfer rumors fading, Lunin’s future is becoming clearer. He will stay at Real Madrid for at least one season and compete with Thibaut Courtois for the starting goalkeeper position.

It’s worth noting that Lunin’s contract expires in June 2025. If the Ukrainian goalkeeper decides against renewing his contract, he could leave on a free transfer next year, which Real Madrid must consider.
