Real Madrid legend and former youth coach Guti revealed in an interview that he had recommended signing Felix and Sancho while coaching Real Madrid youth team, but they were both rejected, which led to Real Madrid missing out on two talented players.
After retiring, Guti coached the Real Madrid youth team from 2013 to 2018. During this period, Guti watched Felix and Sancho play in the youth team and then identified the two players and recommended them to the club, but they did not receive a response from Real Madrid.
Guti revealed, “I saw Felix in the youth league. He dribbled past everyone in the game. I thought at the time that we had to sign this kid. Later we met again in a game and he scored three goals against us. Like Felix, I met Sancho in the Dortmund youth team and I thought this player deserved to be signed by us.”
However, Real Madrid did not take Guti’s advice, leading to missing out on two talented players. Regarding Felix’s current situation, Guti also expressed his sympathy, “He arrived in La Liga for over €100 million at the time. He was only 19 years old and became a star player in the league. The club also paid him a high salary, so he had to perform, which put a lot of pressure on him. Maybe he wasn’t ready at the time.”
