According to Spanish media outlet Sport, after successfully persuading Zubimendi to stay, Real Sociedad will offer the Spanish international midfielder a new contract and further increase the amount of his release clause.
This summer, Zubimendi was close to joining Liverpool, but Real Sociedad persuaded the player who came up through their youth academy to stay. Prior to that, Zubimendi had been chased by numerous top clubs including Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Barcelona.
Zubimendi’s current contract with Real Sociedad expires in 2027, with a release clause of €60 million, a figure that is fully acceptable for top clubs in European football today.
Next, in order to reward Zubimendi for his loyalty to the club and also to prevent the loss of key players, Real Sociedad will offer Zubimendi a pay rise and renewal contract, making him the highest-paid player at the club, and extending his contract to beyond 2030. In addition, the amount of the release clause in the new contract is expected to increase.
