On August 13th, according to the Spanish media outlet Marca, Spanish football clubs have been warned by FIFA, as the organization is investigating potential illegal contracts involving players under 16 years old.
According to Article 18.2 of FIFA regulations, players under 18 years old cannot sign professional contracts exceeding three years. Any terms longer than this will not be accepted, which is why Spanish clubs have been working to regulate any violations.
It is understood that if clubs extend contract terms, players and their families can report these violations to FIFA, allowing them to terminate the contract and leave for free. Despite this, contracts signed from October 2023 onwards are required to be uploaded to the organization’s servers for unified supervision, facilitating the regulation of club behavior during player signings.
Repeated violations of these regulations by clubs could even lead to sanctions on the club’s transfer window, prohibiting them from making any transfers for two years.
