In the early hours of August 16th, Athletic Bilbao drew 1-1 with Getafe at home in the first round of La Liga.
After the game, when a journalist commented that Bilbao’s performance in the first game was sluggish, coach Valverde admitted that the team did play badly.
Valverde said: “Thank you for being polite, because the game was really not good for us, except for the last moments. We were lucky to score a goal, but if you don’t control the pace, we’ll be led by the nose in the game. The opponent’s pressing put a lot of pressure on us.”
