Barcelona Suffers Major Blow Beyond Loss: Key Duo Gündoğan and Lewandowski Injured

Barcelona’s 0-3 loss to Monaco in the Gamper Trophy wasn’t the only disappointment as two key players, Robert Lewandowski and İlkay Gündoğan, both left the pitch injured in the second half, adding to the woes for coach Xavi Hernandez.

Lewandowski’s injury stemmed from an incident in the first half. While evading a tackle, the Polish striker landed awkwardly on his wrist, resulting in a painful injury. Despite playing for over an hour, he was ultimately forced off, visibly distressed and clutching his injured hand.

Gündoğan’s situation appeared more serious. The German midfielder replaced Pablo Torre in the second half but sustained a forceful blow to his head just 15 minutes later after a collision with Monaco’s Vanderson. Gündoğan was immediately taken off on a stretcher but managed to walk off the field after receiving medical attention.

Barcelona has yet to reveal the extent of the injuries sustained by either player, but their health status has become a major concern for fans, especially with the La Liga season opener against Valencia at Mestalla just around the corner.

Meanwhile, the arrival of Dani Olmo has been overshadowed by the injury news. Despite his arrival as a key signing to bolster the squad’s depth, his arrival seems to have been forgotten amidst Lewandowski and Gündoğan’s injuries. Olmo expressed his determination to the fans from the stands, stating: “I’m here to win. We have a strong team, fantastic supporters, and an extraordinary club. We will give everything this season.”

Unfortunately, Olmo did not make his debut in the match. He watched the entire game alongside Lenglet, Roque, Kubaš (returning from the Olympics), Eric Garcia, as well as injured players Pedri and Gavi. It remains uncertain if Olmo will make his debut in the league opener against Valencia, as his registration is still pending. The situation is currently shrouded in uncertainty.
