Sport: Roque’s agent denies talks with Sporting CP over player transfer

Catalan media outlet Sport reports that Andre Cury, the agent of Barcelona’s new signing Vitor Roque, has denied that the club is in talks with Sporting CP over the player’s transfer.

Before the transfer window closes, Barcelona hope to make some sales to recoup funds, address financial fair play scrutiny, and resolve the team’s urgent registration issues. The 19-year-old Roque is not registered for La Liga matches, nor is he in coach Xavi Hernandez’s plans, making him a prime candidate for departure. Spanish media generally believe that Roque will likely leave Barcelona before the window closes and find a new club to continue his career.

Sport points out that Barcelona has given Cury permission to negotiate with other clubs about a transfer. The Blaugrana hope to at least recover their investment from when they signed Roque from the Brazilian league in January (€30 million plus variables). English clubs like Everton and Bournemouth (who recently signed Mexican star Julian Araujo from Barcelona for €10 million) are interested in the situation. In addition, recent media reports have suggested that Portuguese club Sporting CP is also a possible destination for Roque.

However, Roque’s agent, Andre Cury, emphasized in an interview with Portuguese media (Record): “There have been no conversations between Barcelona and Sporting CP.” Portuguese media point out that Sporting CP’s main target for reinforcing their attack is Greek player Ioannis Ioannidis of Panathinaikos.

Roque missed the Gamper Trophy pre-season match due to a fever, but he has now recovered and returned to normal training and team practice. Nevertheless, Catalan media still believe Roque’s transfer will progress soon, as Roque is well aware that he will not be selected for the first La Liga match between Barcelona and Valencia because he is simply not registered for La Liga matches.
