Ronaldinho’s Son Joins Burnley After Failing to Make the Grade at Barcelona

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Ronaldinho’s son, João Mendes, has ended his short spell at Barcelona and signed a two-year deal with English side Burnley, running until 2026.

João Mendes joined Barcelona in March 2023 but failed to break into Oscar López’s youth team. In the past year, he has only made nine appearances, without scoring or assisting.

The 19-year-old will now embark on a new journey in the Championship, after his contract with Barcelona expired.

Spanish media suggests that João’s abilities do not appear to be comparable to his father’s. Considering Ronaldinho is one of Barcelona’s greatest players of all time, it will be a difficult task for João to surpass his father’s achievements. However, he will have the opportunity to prove himself in England, where his father never played. Besides playing in Brazil and Spain, Ronaldinho also played in France with Paris Saint-Germain and Italy with AC Milan, but never featured in the Premier League.
