On August 24, Spanish media outlet ‘Sport’ reported that French defender Clément Lenglet will join Atlético Madrid on loan this season.
The French centre-back will extend his contract with Barcelona until 2027, so the Catalan giants can spread his salary over a longer period of time. This is aimed at amortising his wages over a longer period.
Atlético Madrid will take on most of the player’s wages, but will not have a purchase option after the loan period. Lenglet will undergo a medical in Madrid this Saturday. Earlier reports suggested that Atlético Madrid were looking to sign Feyenoord defender Hancko, but the Dutch club refused to negotiate with Atlético.
