Barcelona’s 2-1 victory over Valencia in the first round of La Liga on Saturday was a positive start for Barcelona coach Flick. However, Alejandro Balde’s injury withdrawal raised concerns, but Balde himself stated through social media that it was not a serious injury, just a hard knock.
In the match against Valencia, Balde, who made his first official appearance since January, suffered a collision to his thigh in the first half. He persevered until the 64th minute before being substituted by Gerard Martin. This caused worry among fans as the injured area is the same as the one that kept him sidelined for 5-6 months. At the time, Barcelona’s coach also stated that they would await the results of the post-match medical examination.
Thankfully, Balde reassured everyone through social media that the issue was not serious, stating, “Just a collision, everything is fine.”
Barcelona coach Flick will be pleased that Balde is not seriously injured, as the club is expected to rely on the young player at left-back. Next weekend, Barcelona will host their first home match of the season against the formidable Athletic Bilbao, and Balde’s availability would be great news.
Balde is two months away from his 21st birthday but has already amassed 57 La Liga appearances and 12 Champions League appearances, scoring one goal and providing seven assists. The Spanish international missed the 2024 European Championship due to injury but made four appearances at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
