Barcelona have reportedly begun to consider alternatives to Nico Williams this summer, as the Spanish international’s arrival seems increasingly unlikely. After Athletic Bilbao gave him the number 10 shirt, most sources report that he still hasn’t responded to Barça’s interest.
Barça are reportedly exploring other options for the left-wing position, one of them being Luis Díaz. The Liverpool winger was sporting director Deco’s first choice before deciding on Nico Williams, and he has now emerged as an option again. According to Sport, Barça’s budget for Díaz would be the same as for Nico Williams, €62 million.
However, The Athletic stated that only an offer well above €58 million would get Liverpool to the negotiation table, adding that there is no such offer as of now.
Díaz, like their other alternative, Leo, seems to be out of Barça’s budget. Considering that the transfer window is now entering its final weeks, Liverpool’s asking price for Díaz could be higher than at the start of the window, when finding a replacement would have been easier.
