June 30th According to Spanish media outlet AS, Al-Qadisiyah, a newly promoted team in the Saudi Pro League, are interested in recruiting Atlético Madrid forward Alvaro Morata after signing Real Madrid defender Nacho. The Saudi side would like to bring the Spanish striker to the Arabian Peninsula.
Currently working for a Saudi club, Marcel, who was the sporting director who recruited Morata to Real Madrid in 2008, is a big admirer of the forward. Morata has enjoyed a career-best season in terms of goals, scoring 21 goals, including 15 in the league, 5 in the Champions League and 1 in the cup. However, due to his decline in form, he even lost his starting position towards the end of the season.
“I’m also not the first choice for the coach and the club. They can tell the media what they want, but nobody told me my situation in the club. I’m old enough now, maybe I need more games and need to find something new.” Morata said in a previous interview.
Another Atlético striker, Memphis Depay, has officially announced his departure from the club, and Atlético are looking to sign a new forward. Atlético have offered €25 million for Girona’s striker Doffo, who was the top scorer in the league this season. However, Girona are reluctant to sell him for less than €40 million. Besides Doffo, several other forwards such as Jonathan David, Maxwel Cornet are on Atlético’s transfer list. But Morata wants to continue playing as a starter and he intends to see the club’s plans after the European Championships before making a decision about his future.
