According to Spanish outlet Sport, there’s been new developments regarding Porto’s offer for Barça player Mikaël Faye. Barça are ready to greenlight his move to Porto.
Previously, the Portuguese club were willing to offer around 15 million euros for Faye. Although the negotiations haven’t reached a decisive stage, reports suggest that Tuesday’s meeting confirmed that selling is the most viable solution to the complex situation.
On one hand, Barça understands that Faye’s market value could increase further if he makes his debut in the preseason and gets minutes with the first team. Not only that, the club also believes Faye can have a place in the team. On the other hand, the player’s entourage wants Barça to guarantee him minutes, which Barça clearly cannot do.
Currently, Barça’s defensive line is overcrowded. García is about to return, Iñigo has yet to be registered. Plus the rest of the starting players. As things stand, Faye will struggle to get enough playing time even if he stays. Add to that the club’s strained financial situation, and Faye’s departure is one of the few clear choices at the moment.
In the coming days, talks will continue, and Barça wants to include a buy-back clause in Faye’s contract because they still don’t want to lose complete control of the player.
