La Liga president: Barcelona can take steps to make Nico Williams transfer compliant and complete the signing

Recently, La Liga president Javier Tebas said in an interview with ‘Sport’ that, with Barcelona’s finances gradually improving, signing winger Nico Williams this summer could be an anticipated deal.

Despite long-standing financial issues, Barça have been linked to Nico Williams throughout the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are continuing to implement a policy of lowering the club’s wage bill to free up funds and salary space, with the aim of being ‘untied’ in the transfer market.

Nico Williams’ current club, Athletic Club, knows it will be difficult to keep hold of the hot winger this summer, but they are not willing to accept offers for the 22-year-old that fall short of his €58 million release clause. Spanish transfer expert, Moretto, has suggested that, although Barcelona could offer a payment plan, the deal is still unlikely to be done without a major sell-off.

However, according to ‘Sport’, Barcelona’s pursuit of a Nico Williams transfer has received the support of La Liga president Tebas. Tebas said in an interview with ‘Sport’: “If they reach a 1:1 transfer balance, they can complete the deal. Barcelona has worked hard to reduce their wage bill by more than €200 million, plus other measures they have taken, they can definitely sign players like Nico Williams.”
