According to Spanish media outlet Sport, Thiago Alcântara, who recently announced his retirement, is currently considering joining Barcelona’s coaching staff to reunite with his former coach, Julian Nagelsmann.
Last week, the 33-year-old Spaniard announced his retirement from professional football via social media. However, although his playing career has come to an end, Thiago is not expected to leave football entirely.
Now, according to Sport, Thiago is in talks with Barcelona, and is expected to become part of the coaching staff, reuniting with his former manager at Bayern Munich, Julian Nagelsmann. As a former player of both Barcelona and Bayern, Thiago speaks both Spanish and German, which would allow him to act as a bridge between coach Nagelsmann and the players.
Recent reports suggest that Thiago could initially join for six months, during which time he will help Nagelsmann familiarise himself with the club and its culture, as well as learn Spanish. Currently, there is only one coach on Nagelsmann’s staff who speaks Spanish, so Thiago’s arrival would be a significant boost.
From Thiago’s perspective, Barcelona is his boyhood club, and a return would be a welcome move for both parties.
