Bordeaux Club Withdraws Appeal, Dropped to Semi-Professional League After Failing Financial Audit

Bordeaux is one of the most successful clubs in French football history, having won 6 Ligue 1 titles, 4 Coupe de France titles, and the Coupe de la Ligue in 1995.

Looking back at Bordeaux’s history, it has boasted numerous stars such as Zidane, Papin, Cantona, Deschamps, Djorkaeff, Lizarazu, Micu, Tigana, Wiltord, and Gourcuff. However, the club has been in a dire financial situation in recent years.

Earlier this month, Bordeaux failed the financial audit conducted by the regulatory body, leading to their temporary relegation to the Championnat National. The club immediately announced an appeal. However, after various efforts, the club’s shareholders eventually concluded that they could not reverse the current unfavorable situation in time and were forced to accept the punishment, meaning they will have to bid farewell to the professional stage in the upcoming season.
